Behind the Scenes of Bobo Choses: A Legend - Gino Bartali January 20 2017
- Gino Bartali
Gino Bartali was a champion road cyclist before the Second World War, who had won the Tour de France in 1938 and the Giro d’Italia – twice. But he never let the fame go to his head. In fact, he used it to help Italian Jews who were being persecuted by the Nazis. Pretending that he was simply on a training exercise, he would smuggle documents in his tyres past the German army and find out important information about raids on Jewish safe houses. Even when he was questioned and was in danger for his life, Bartali kept going, saying “I do what I feel in my heart”.
