Behind the Scenes of Bobo Choses: A Legend - Dick Fosbury January 22 2017

“When you reach that elite level, 90% is mental and 10% is physical. You are competing against yourself, not the other athlete.”

- Dick Fosbury

Dick Fosbury was a high jumping champion who not only won a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics, but also revolutionised the high jump event. Previously, the traditional technique was to jump over the bar facing down – but Fosbury helped to pioneer a more streamlined approach, jumping over the bar backwards. Even though he came up against ridicule and scepticism, sometimes even from his coach, his results revealed that it was worth it all. Because he persevered he is now considered one of the most significant track and field athletes of all time.
